On May 28, TGNCDC & North Newstead hosted a Landlord training on Tenant Orientation, at O’Fallon Park YMCA.  We heard from Diana Williams of North Newstead Association and Kristan Nickels of Tower Grove Neighborhoods CDC, who both manage the rental portfolios at the respective community development agencies.  We learned best practices for Tenant Orientation, including: Advertising the unit; Email and phone interviews; Showing the property; Tenant screening; Lease signing; Rules of Conduct; Payment procedures; Renters’ Insurance; Lead Disclosure; Benchmarking energy use, Maintenance Requests, What is and is not an emergency maintenance issue; Building / Unit orientation; Reporting rent payments to build tenant credit through MoCaFi; and Move out procedures.  There was lively discussion and sharing of experiences by the audience and panel members.
