Tower Grove CDC Leads Effort to Enhance Shaw Blvd

With support for SNIA (Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association) and Alderman Conway and in partnership with Saint Louis City Board of Public Service, Tower Grove Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation is preparing a Surface Transportation Grant application for improving Shaw Blvd.  The grant , which is due March 15, 2014, would be used complete streetscape enhancements on Shaw Blvd from Tower Grove Avenue to Grand Ave.  The main focus of the grant funding is new lighting (replacing the old and outdated cobra head lighting) and associated improvements to the electrical systems.  In addition, the funding will improve ADA accessibility, replace some sidewalks, etc.  Additional improvements, like way finding signage, bump-outs, street furniture, new bus stops are also part of the application and will be determined during the planning and design phase. Typical Intersection

The conceptual drawings will be presented at the SNIA meeting on March 6, 2014.  The application is part of the larger Shaw Blvd Improvement Plan TGNCDC, formally Shaw Neighborhood Housing Corp, started in 2013 to promote investment and help home owners on the street.  The streetscape enhancements are considered the largest and most important part of the Shaw Blvd Improvement plan.  The grant is extremely competitive and includes projects from all over Missouri.  We believe an announcement will be made in Summer 2014.
