Tower Grove CDC to Host Better Block Event at Morganford and Wyoming May 10 from 12pm-4pm

After months of planning, Tower Grove CDC officially announces a neighborhood (s) Better Block Event on May 10, 2014 from 12pm to 4pm. It will be held on the 3200 block of Morganford (roughly Humphrey St. to Wyoming St).  The street will not be closed for the event but street parking will be eliminated in front of the event properties.

The Better Block project is a community planning exercise to show the potential to create a livable, vibrant, community.  Opportunity to address commercial vacancy  Data Collection  Pop Up Businesses  Bike & Pedestrian Infrastructure  Landscaping & Lighting  Seating & Entertainment

Volunteers Kim Cole and Sgt Ron Hasty move a 10ft Parklet for the Better Block project on May 10, 2014.

Issues to Address in Planning

Safety - Real & Perceived, Traffic, Open Sightlines Opportunities & Limitations of Each Potential Location Shared Access - Pedestrians, Cyclists, Transit Users, Wayfinding Staying Power - Food, Music Games, History Amenities for All - Children, Seniors, Dogs

Tower Grove Neighborhoods CDC was awarded a grant to coordinate/implement this event with neighborhood participation.  The objective of the event is to temporarily improve the block by showing alternative uses for under-utilized buildings, promoting walking and biking, and enhancing the streetscape.

This is a neighbor driven event and we are looking for more volunteers to help improve the block for the day.  We would love for you to participate in some way, shape or form.
