TGNCDC presents HomeScreen at Choice Means Choice Conference in New Orleans
Last month, TGNCDC had the opportunity to attend Urban Strategies’ Choice Means Choice conference in New Orleans. Over two full days, we learned from presenters on topics like Housing as a Social Determinant of Health, Equitable Housing Development, and the Benefits of Mixed-Income Neighborhoods. St. Louis’ own Treasurer, Tishaura Jones, presented her ideas on Economic Mobility and Richard Rothstein gave an eloquent summary of his research for his book, Color of Law. Finally, on Friday, November 15th, Ella Gross, Tenant Screening Manager for HomeScreen, a product of Tower Grove Neighborhoods, presented with Stanley Toussaint of MoCaFi and Chris Hobday of Equifax on our rental solution through HomeScreen’s tenant screening and MoCaFi’s rent reporting.
There are over 45 million renters in the United States and virtually none of them are getting credit for their largest payment they make each month. Also, an increase in credit score of just 70 points would save a family over $150,000 with lower interest payments over a 30 year home ownership. Through our work and partnerships, Tower Grove Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation uses a not for profit approach to help the tenant screening industry improve the way people, especially low income, are screened for rental housing and increase their economic mobility. We’re taking the lead and look forward to the future!
Thank you to Esther Shin or Urban Strategies Inc for moderating our panel, and to her team for putting on the Choice Means Choice Conference. It was wonderful to be around professionals from all over the country who share our mission of creating affordable housing and thriving neighborhoods.
